Have you adopted an Angel yet?
It's officially December, the most wonderful time of the year.. right? Ever since I met Dustin he is obsessed with Christmas, this guy can get in the Christmas spirit come November. What I mean by that is he is playing Christmas music come November; and this year we put up our Christmas tree the third week in November. ( I tried telling you guys he loves Christmas)
Since we have been together for four years, and just recently got married we have made several traditions over the years that I think we will continue to do for the rest of our lives.
To give you some examples:
1) Every year we go to Opryland Hotel and look at the lights.
We have been doing this since we started dating it was a date for our 6 month anniversary for our year and half anniversary.. and so on. Then on our three and half year anniversary he proposed to me (: See so we have to keep it a tradition.
2) Every other year we go to see the ICE Display.
We do this every other year because they keep it for two years straight, so since we saw it the first year what is the point in going back?
We are going next Sunday to do both of these things (:
3) Watching Twenty Five days of Christmas
You know the shows that are always on ABC Family this time of year (:
4)Adopting an Angel
This isn't like the regular angels that you can get from Kroger or Walmart, or anywhere in Nashville. You can't just call and get these angels. The only reason we are able to get the special Angel that we get is through our church.
We adopt a Child who one or both parents are in jail, and I know some people are thinking why would you want to do that?
Answer: It's not the child's fault a parent or parents are in jail.
We have done this for the past three years they have done it, and we love it. Dustin use to work at DCCO, in Nashville so he has worked with possibly their parents. He understands that their parents would love to see them on Christmas but are serving time. He has seen the parent(s) question if their child will get a Christmas gift(s)
The way it works is we sign up for an angel, she calls us and tells a name, age, and what they are asking for. FYI: they can only ask for TWO items. We have always gotten smaller children in the past so for example they would ask for a toy, and a piece of clothing item.
This year we got a sixteen year old girl, who wanted Gold Jewelry, and an MP3 player. Dustin and I love to shop for this, we just always wish we could buy more for them than what they ask for, but rules are rules and they are there for a reason.
We dropped off our gifts to the church this past Sunday, and all week Dustin has been saying " I hope she likes what we got her." "You think we got her enough jewelry?" "You think she will like everything we got her?" I always respond with I think she will love everything we got her, because she will know someone cares enough for her to get her gifts for Christmas.
Have you gotten an angel yet this year? Are you going to do any act of kindness for Christmas for those less fortunate? I wish every month were Christmas so we would give to other's more than just once a year.
Please remember if you didn't get an Angel from a tree, please call around locally to The Hope Center or Goodwill's they may know of families locally who need your help. Remember my post from last week make sure to read to the bottom. Click here
These are our traditions, I am sure we will have more to add as the years go on. What are your traditions?
