It's a different world out there!

Dustin and I have been looking at different houses, and land in several area's. Well my brother Benjamin, has been telling us about this place close to him that has 30 acres, a house, and a nice barn with stalls and an indoor arena. It sounded really good, and even look great online when we looked it up. Dustin and I decided to go up there and take a look at it.

Ben had went up there earlier this week and checked it out and was telling me about it, and said it was nice but needed some TLC on the barn and fencing; but the house was in great shape. He said that you did have to cross a creek to get to it, but Dustin and I didn't think anything about that. Keep in mind we both want to live as far out in the country as we can get so crossing a creek was not that big of a deal to either of us.

So this afternoon we pile in Dustins truck, and head to Westmorland/Macon County area. It took us about 45 minutes to get there. We met Ben at the Dollar General in town so he could tell us where to go and tell us more about it. So we are going down these country one lane roads, so far so good Dustin and I are really liking it! Since we got that snow on Friday, these roads were still all white, and some ice on them; because no-one comes out to clear the roads. We then come up on a truck with two women on the side of the road picking up sticks, as Ben and I take a closer look we notice she is caring a pistol!

Warning! Why is she caring a pistol, I thought if we were back here in the country people were nice and helpful? ( I mean not to brag, but White House has always been nice and helpful to people.)We then go on down the road and there is police tape all over the place.. HMM?? Then Ben proceeds to tell me, " Oh yeah by the way police are always busting up meth labs around here." "You can look at the paper and there is like a whole page of just police reports on meth labs that were busted up that week." Really Ben thank you for telling us that now. I guess it's a good thing he told us about it now and not when or if we did buy the place.. Right?

Then we turn off on to a gravel road, we then assume that we are almost there since we are hitting gravel. NOPE! Then there is the creek, when Ben said we had to cross a creek to get there I at least thought there was a bridge. WRONG again, we have to cross a creek like you would if you were driving on someones land. This is no shallow creek, it was some what deep, so anyone with a car there is no possible way you are coming to visit us. We finally "reach our destination."

The house is like a 70's home, two bedroom, nice living room and kitchen, one bathroom. Just a small simple home, that would be great to start off with. You would then think that the land was behind the house.. WRONG AGAIN, the house is on one side of the road, and the barn and land were on the other side of the road. One barn that was on the place would def need to be torn down, it is falling apart anyways. We then get to the barn I am so anxious to see, has twelve stalls, tack room, office, and an indoor arena. It was very nice, now the previous owner's have let it go down hill, but putting time into it and some money and it would be fixed back up and looking great. We then walk around the acreage it was all flat, with a creek around your property line. There was a pond deal it had a duck house deal in the middle of it; and like a mote around it. We were all laughing about that, who really does that? Obviously people around here do.

After looking around the whole place for an hour, we were just amazed by how flat it was, and how beautiful it was around there. Two dogs show up in the front yard of the house, I am thinking ok whose dogs are these. Ben again says, "oh yeah the neighbor said that dogs are always getting dropped off here." GREAT! We will always have two - three dogs around here that won't be ours. SUPER! (NOT) So as we were driving away, Ben said to take a left and go down the road he wanted to show us just how close the feed mill was to us; and how convient that it was. He was right it is definatly super close to us, not even five mintues from the house.

We then pass a house with TONS of goats everywhere, not to mention there were guineas, peacocks as well walking around. Oh and what do you know there are chickens in there front yard; and on the road. Then the rooster's that we saw, they weren't your ordinary rooster's, those things looked like rooster's people fight. Then when you see the guys walk out of the barn you definatly have different things running through your mind. Dustin and I both just looked at each other like, well maybe this just isn't for us. To find the humor in it all, everywhere we passed had 10-12 horses in each pasture, just with a huge roll of hay out there to eat on. Dustin then says, "your horse will look like a freaking champion compaired to all these mutts around here." We all just started busting out laughing, he is always funny, but he is also very honest and you never know what is going to fly out of his mouth.

In conlusion, you just never know what you are going to see when you are looking for somwhere to live. So Westmorland / Macon County I just don't think we were made to live there, that can be crossed off our list. Next Cross Plains, or Dixon here we come, we hope you are more welcoming to us and our precious heathens.
